St. Valentine

You may think it is funny but St. Valentine and I have something in common. We both will not let go of our beliefs as a Christian. The reason why I love St.Valentine is because he helped people believe in God and become Christian. He helped martyrs in persecution and gave his life up for faith and love for God. One great story that everybody knows is when he helped a blind girl who was the daughter of a jail guard see. The guard had faith in St.Valentine and continued to take his daughter to him. The guard mourned when he found out that St. Valentine was in jail. The faithful saint sent a letter to the guard's daughter and she gained her eyesight. The guard wanted to say thank you to Valentine, but he was already executed. The guard and his daughter grieved for him. In a way, they had faith, which is a true Christian/Catholic spirit. God bless St. Valentine for his life and faith!

Saint Elizabeth of Hungary

I chose Saint Elizabeth of Hungary because I already knew some things about her that she was a patron Saint of nursing and healing.
I learned that she had a baby who was blind and she did a lot of Healing miracles.

My Saint Bracelet

This is my lucky bracelet that I carry around wherever I go no matter what. It includes pictures of famous saints and the Holy Family. It reminds me to be brave anywhere at any time and it helps me to be strong for God. Whenever in a struggle I look down and think "Am I doing the right thing?
Would these people do what I am about to do?
How would they feel?" The bracelet is joined together by beads. It joins the saints and family together as one. This also symbolizes the connection with us and other religions. No matter Catholic, Muslim, Jewish, etc. we all our connected under one loving God. The bracelet is my symbol of faith and remembrance of God and Jesus and his ultimate sacrifice for us. Everyone can have a symbol of saints or God, and it doesn't necessarily have to be concrete. Whatever helps you remember the question "What would Jesus do?" I know we use this phrase commonly, but you have to think of it in a deeper way. God always forgives us and we don't have to be without sin, which is almost impossible. God does forgives us no matter if we use that phrase or not. Yes, it is good to follow it and yes it does help. None of us our perfect though. We need faith in our lives and a remembrance of that. Mine is this bracelet.

My Favorite Saint

My favorite saint is Saint Dymphna. I love her because when I first read about her, in second grade, we had an instant connection. We were both Irish! I was ecstatic because I love my heritage and at that age anything Irish was absolutely wonderful. When I read about her I was shocked a father could do such a thing to his only daughter. I was immensely proud of her for sticking up for what she wanted and not what her father wanted, which was wrong.

Her mother died when she was fourteen and her father was determined to find a wife just like her. But he could not so he went to the person closest to his wife, Dymphna. Dymphna wanted to be a nun and to be a nun you mustn't marry anyone but God. She told her distress to her priest friend, so they fled to Belgium to escape her wretched father. Sadly, they were discovered. Her father Damon, ordered Dymphna's priest friend to be beheaded. He still wanted to marry her, but she reluctantly refused. The order of her beheading came because she was strong in her beliefs.  Her feast day is May 15th and she is the patron saint of those with mental illnesses and nervous people.

My Favorite Saint-St. Dymphna

My favorite saint is St. Dymphna because she was so courageous! Her mom sadly died when she was little so she lived with her father. Her mother believed in God with all of her heart! Her father was pagan and didn't believe in God. Dymphna's father wanted to marry again and he could not find anyone he wanted to be with. He demanded to marry his daughter, Dymphna. Dymphna ran away with a priest and one of her friends. They were caught and the priest got beheaded. St. Dymphna still refused to marry her own father and her father beheaded her. St. Dymphna stood up for what she thought was right and that is why she is my favorite Saint!

Rosary from Living Rosary Celebration

We have a tradition at our school to recite a Living Rosary at Church. This month 500 of our our students gathered with our parish priest, teachers, and parents for this special celebration to honor Mary.  Students from all grade levels k-8 have the opportunity to lead the prayers of the rosary. Selected students hold roses for each prayer and after the prayer is said, students place their rose in a vase.  This photo was taken after the Living Rosary as we were walking back to school.

The Blessing of the Rosaries

Father came to visit our class to bless our new Twine Rosaries. He blessed them with Holy Water. He actually blessed the water in this bucket before us. He also taught us why he added salt to the water. We learned that the Holy Water 'flinger' is called the Aspergillum. Father reminded us to bless ourself whenever we have Holy Water.
